Media advisory: Media invited to attend Crawford County open forum, other K-State community visit events on March 28

ANNOUNCEMENT: As part of the Kansas State University presidential community visit initiative, K-State will host a community visit in Crawford County on Tuesday, March 28. The visit includes activities to engage with, listen to and learn from Kansans in Pittsburg, Girard and the Crawford County region.

President Richard Linton and K-State Connected 'Cats students will lead several events, including community conversations, recruitment activities and events to highlight university partnerships and K-State Research and Extension relationships. The Connected 'Cats students include Cara DeTar, senior in agricultural education, Coffeyville, and Colben Dodson, second-year veterinary medicine student, Liberty.

Media also are invited to attend multiple community visit events throughout the day on Tuesday, March 28.

• Community open forum, 8:30-9:30 a.m., Girard Civic Center, 102 N. Ozark St., Girard. Linton and the K-State Connected 'Cats students will host a dialogue about university and community connections and the student experience.

• Spotlight session: Community services and partnerships to improve health outcomes in southeast Kansas, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, John Parolo Education Center, 3015 N. Michigan St., Pittsburg. Join a conversation with K-State and the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas to discuss efforts to remove barriers to good health, workforce training and partnerships, including the K-State SNAP-Ed program for nutrition education.

• Spotlight session: Using community cooperation to advance economic prosperity, 3-4:30 p.m., 402 N. Broadway St., Pittsburg. Take part in a panel discussion that spotlights Block 22 — a unique public/private partnership among Pittsburg State University, the city of Pittsburg and developers to create a living-learning entrepreneurial center in downtown Pittsburg. The panel will include leaders from the Pittsburg project, NetWork Kansas and K-State Research and Extension.

Additionally, surprise educator awards will be distributed at area high schools throughout the day. Media members should contact media@k-state.edu to attend these events and to get further details.

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: A brief media availability with President Richard Linton and the K-State Connected 'Cats students will occur shortly after the open forum ends. The open forum will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at the Girard Civic Center, 102 N. Ozark St., Girard.
