CUKC Named to Overland Park Chamber “Business Hall of Honor”
Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) was recognized by the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council at its Annual Luncheon on Feb. 2. CUKC was one of two organizations named as new members of the EDC Business Hall of Honor.
President Carl S. Cleveland III accepted the award on behalf of CUKC. The University moved to the 34-acre Overland Park location in 2008.
In his remarks to the Chamber membership, Dr. Cleveland said he distinctly remembers his first impression of the Overland Park site.
“I toured that building with the Chair of the Cleveland Board of Trustees,” Cleveland said. “I was not in the building but 15 minutes before I knew that this is where Cleveland would be spending its next 50 years.”
He also recapped the University’s economic impact. In fall 2022, CUKC had 145 employees, and enrolled 633 students from 27 states, with 85% of the student body from outside of the Kansas City metro area. A recent study released by the Kansas Independent College Association (KICA) calculates the university’s annual economic impact at $55 million.
The Chamber’s Economic Development Council facilitates new business recruitment opportunities and promotes local business expansion opportunities.
