Gorillas to Face Jennies in MIAA Tournament Thursday
The Pittsburg State University volleyball team has earned the No. 6 seed for the upcoming 2022 MIAA Postseason Tournament and the Gorillas will meet No. 3 seed Central Missouri in first-round action Thursday (Nov. 10).
The eight-team tournament will take place Nov. 10-12 at Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Mo.
Pitt State earned the No. 6 seed following a regular season that saw the Gorillas compile a 16-13 overall record and a 10-10 mark in MIAA play. UCM posted a 19-10 overall record and 14-6 ledger in MIAA play.
The two teams will meet at 2:30 p.m. (CST) Thursday in the tournament quarterfinals. UCM swept a pair of regular season battles against Pitt State as the Jennies beat the Gorillas, 3-1, in Pittsburg on Sept. 16 and 3-0 at Warrensburg on Oct. 15.
In other first-round match-ups, MIAA regular season champion Northwest Missouri (23-5, 17-3 MIAA) secured the No. 1 seed and will face eighth-seeded Missouri Southern (13-16, 8-12 MIAA); No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney (26-4, 16-4 MIAA) will battle No. 7 Missouri Western (13-15, 8-12 MIAA); and, No. 4 Central Oklahoma (24-6, 14-6 MIAA) will take on No. 5 Washburn (21-7, 13-7 MIAA).
The Gorillas are making their eighth trip to the MIAA Tournament. Pitt State has previously qualified for the post-season tournament in 1992, 2003-06, 2019 and 2021. The Gorillas are 3-7 in 10 all-time MIAA Tournament matches.
