Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), along with Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kan.) and U.S. Representatives Tracey Mann (KS-01), Derek Schmidt (KS-02), Sharice Davids (KS-03), and Ron Estes (KS-04), announced that the Trump administration will provide $5.7 million in federal emergency aid to Kansas.
This funding comes after severe weather events, including wind storms, flooding, and tornadoes, impacted several counties in Kansas from June 3 to June 7, 2025. In August 2025, Senator Moran led the Kansas delegation in urging President Trump to declare a disaster for the state. Governor Laura Kelly submitted an official request for federal support on August 6, 2025.
“Kansans are no strangers to the severe impacts of natural disasters on our state,” said Senator Moran. “I appreciate President Trump and FEMA approving Kansas’ request for federal support and a major disaster declaration following the devastating storms, winds, tornadoes, and flooding endured by Kansas communities earlier this year. This declaration will provide our state and local governments with resources to help Kansans recover and rebuild even stronger.”
Senator Marshall also expressed gratitude: “I am so thankful to President Trump and his administration for ensuring that Kansas communities have the critical assistance they need to rebuild after the severe storms in June of this year,” he said. “The aftermath of these natural disasters left lasting impacts, and the dangerous flash flooding affected communities beyond where the storms hit hardest.”
The severe weather events affected Barber, Butler, Chase, Cowley, Coffey, Franklin, Greenwood, Harper, Hodgeman, Kingman, Lyon, Morris, Osage, Stanton, Sumner and Wallace counties across Kansas.
