Two former bookkeepers for the Wyandotte County District Court have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kansas, on charges related to the theft of $900,000 from the court.
Court documents identify Julia Roberts, 65, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Vicki Robinson, 63, of Bonner Springs as those charged. The indictment includes one count of wire fraud conspiracy as well as individual counts of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
Roberts and Robinson were responsible for collecting and depositing funds into the Wyandotte County Clerk Office’s bank account. According to allegations detailed in court documents, they devised a scheme between January 2018 and February 2023 to steal incoming cash. They are accused of using the clerk of court’s signature on unauthorized checks to conceal the thefts. The fraudulent checks were drawn on and deposited into the county clerk office’s bank account in a way that offset debits and credits. This method allegedly prevented fluctuations in deposit amounts on bank statements while hiding the stolen cash within the court’s accounting system.
Roberts made her initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Angel D. Mitchell on September 3, 2025; Robinson appeared before Judge Mitchell on September 5, 2025.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ryan J. Huschka and Michelle McFarlane are prosecuting.
"An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
