U.S. Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) announced Thursday that Kansas will receive $5.7 million in emergency aid from the Trump Administration. The funding follows a request made by Senators Marshall and Jerry Moran, along with Representatives Tracey Mann, Derek Schmidt, Sharice Davids, and Ron Estes.

President Trump personally informed Senator Marshall of the decision to provide this relief.

“I am so thankful to President Trump and his administration for ensuring that Kansas communities have the critical assistance they need to rebuild after the severe storms in June of this year,” said Senator Marshall. “The aftermath of these natural disasters left lasting impacts, and the dangerous flash flooding affected communities beyond where the storms hit hardest.”

Senator Moran added, “Kansans are no strangers to the severe impacts of natural disasters on our state. I appreciate President Trump and FEMA approving Kansas’ request for federal support and a major disaster declaration following the devastating storms, winds, tornadoes, and flooding endured by Kansas communities earlier this year. This declaration will provide our state and local governments with resources to help Kansans recover and rebuild even stronger.”

The emergency funds address damage caused by storms between June 3–7 that brought straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding to several counties including Barber, Butler, Chase, Coffey, Cowley, Franklin, Greenwood, Harper, Hodgeman, Kingman, Lyon, Morris, Osage, Stanton, Sumner, and Wallace. Some of the money will also go toward hazard mitigation projects statewide.

Earlier this year Senator Marshall announced another round of disaster relief totaling $6.7 million for areas impacted by a separate tornado outbreak in Bourbon, Cheyenne, Edwards, Gove, Kiowa, Logan, Pratt, Reno, Scott, Sheridan, and Stafford counties.
