The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has issued a warning about a new scam being circulated through text messages. These messages falsely claim to be from KDOT and demand payment for outstanding traffic tickets.
KDOT clarified that it does not collect money for traffic tickets and will never request or collect payments via text messages. The department advises recipients not to click on any links within these scam texts, as doing so could expose personal and financial information to scammers.
The public is urged not to share sensitive personal or financial details through text messages or by clicking on unknown links. Those who receive such scam messages are encouraged to report them to the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ and/or the Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://www.ic3.gov/. Recipients should delete the text and report it as junk.
If payment information has been provided at a fraudulent website, individuals should contact their bank or credit card company immediately. To stay informed about official KDOT information, visit their official website at ksdot.gov and verified social media channels.
