The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has introduced two digital tools aimed at aiding small business owners, policymakers, and the public in Kansas. These tools are designed to highlight the economic impact of the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction and emphasize the consequences if Congress does not make it permanent.
The offerings include an interactive map that shows potential job creation and GDP growth across Kansas congressional districts if the deduction is extended. Additionally, a tax calculator provides personalized estimates for small business owners on how much more they might owe in federal income taxes by 2026 should the deduction expire.
“These new tools give small business owners and elected leaders in Kansas real data about the economic stakes,” stated NFIB Kansas State Director Dan Murray. “If Congress fails to act, millions of small businesses across the country—including right here in Kansas—will face a massive tax hike. That means fewer jobs, less investment, and slower growth for our communities. We urge Congress to make the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent.”
According to NFIB's interactive map, extending the deduction could result in an increase of 22,689 jobs and $1.174 billion in GDP for Kansas over ten years. The district-level data aims to help lawmakers and local leaders understand potential gains or losses for small businesses depending on whether the tax deduction is made permanent.
The tax calculator also assists individual small business owners in projecting possible tax increases if the deduction is not extended. For instance, a Kansas small business owner with a personal income of $75,000 and qualified business income of $150,000 might face a tax increase exceeding $13,000 based on their financial profile.
NFIB commends the U.S. House of Representatives' recent passage of the One Big Beautiful Act, describing it as one of the most pro-small business pieces of legislation recently enacted. The organization views this as an opportunity for Congress to provide lasting tax relief to over 33 million small business owners.
