Today, Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate introduced the "Thank a Farmer" initiative at a press conference in Montgomery. The campaign seeks to increase public appreciation for farmers and raise awareness about food origins. The event featured speeches from community leaders such as Ravello's Chef Nicholas Wyatt, local farmer Kelvin Anderson, and State Senator Will Barfoot.

Commissioner Pate emphasized the importance of recognizing farmers' contributions: "Through the ‘Thank a Farmer’ initiative, we’re encouraging Alabamians to show more gratitude for the food they enjoy and the people who grow it." He noted that during Covid, it became clear that "food security is national security."

The initiative will be supported by marketing efforts including television, radio, digital, and print ads. Chef Wyatt highlighted the significance of using local ingredients: "Working with local farmers is not just about getting the best ingredients; it’s about supporting our neighbors and our economy."

Farmer Kelvin Anderson shared his perspective: "As a farmer, I work tirelessly every day to provide high-quality produce to the people of Alabama." State Senator Barfoot also voiced his support: "By recognizing farmers and supporting agriculture, we are ensuring a sustainable future for the next generation of Americans."

The press conference included a tasting of dishes made with Alabama-grown ingredients. The "Thank a Farmer" initiative aims to continue growing through partnerships with local entities.
