Men's Basketball Leaps Up 12 Spots in Latest NJCAA DI Rankings to #10

Dodge City men's basketball team vaults 12 spots this week into the #10 spot in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings. 

The Conquistadors are 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in KJCCC action after beating Coffeyville in overtime last week in a Top 25 battle and then downed Seward County on the road to win their seventh-straight game. The lone loss of the season is to the current #1 team in the nation in Indian Hills which came on the road in overtime by just one point. 

The Conqs are picking up plenty of national attention this week as they were named the JUCOrecruiting.com National Team of the Week and Head Coach, Brad Witherspoon was selected as JUCO Coach of the Week by HoopDirt.com. Also the Conqs rank sixth in the latest JUCO Advocate media poll and eighth in the latest JUCO Hoop Scoop rankings. 

On the season through eight games the Conqs are averaging 82 points per game on 43.5% shooting and rank in the Top 20 nationally in free throws made per game at 18.1 ranking 17th and free throws attempted per game at 27.4 which ranks 10th. Defensively the Conqs are holding teams to 74 points per game on 40.7% shooting. 

Contributions are coming from all over the roster for the Conqs as five guys are averaging double figures on the season. Jason Edwards is pacing the Conqs with 19 points per game, while Cam Malray averages 11.4 points per game. DJ Jones, Chris Robinson, and Jacobi Sebock add 10.9, 10.4, and 10.3 points per game. Four more Conqs average 4.5 to six points per game on the season also. 

Up next the Conqs return to Dodge City to take on Northwest Kansas Tech on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30 pm and then will travel on Saturday, December 3rd to take on rival Garden City at 4:00 pm.
