Wichita State defeated UAB, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the American Championship on Apr. 17 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.
The victory marks Wichita State’s (20-3) eighteenth consecutive win, setting a new program record for longest winning streak. The team also advanced to the semifinals of the American Championship for the first time since 2018.
In doubles play, Anne Knuettel and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda earned a quick 6-1 win at No. 3, giving Wichita State an early advantage. Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli then secured the doubles point with a close 6-4 victory at No. 1.
During singles matches, Wichita State won four out of six opening sets to maintain control of the contest. Wang finished her day undefeated with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 result at No. 1 singles to put her team ahead by two points. Kudryavtseva followed with a straight-set win (6-2, 6-1) at No. 5 before Tatyana Nikolenko clinched the match for Wichita State by winning her match at No. 4 (6-4, 6-3).
With this result, Wichita State moves forward in pursuit of its first conference title since reaching this stage eight years ago.
The Shockers will next face fourth-seeded Tulsa on Saturday at George R. Brown Tennis Center for a place in the American Conference Championship match.
