Wichita State will face East Carolina in a three-game baseball series starting April 17 in Greenville, North Carolina. The Shockers enter the matchup with a record of 23-15 and a 7-5 mark in American Conference play, matching East Carolina’s conference record.

This series is significant as both teams are tied in conference standings and have a history of competitive games. Wichita State leads the all-time series 15-13 and took two out of three games last season when they played at home.

The Shockers are currently on an eight-game road stretch, playing against top-ranked teams after spending much of the early season at home. Their recent performance includes winning previous road conference series at Memphis and UAB but losing their latest game to Kansas. The team will be without catcher Max Kaufer, who was leading the nation with a high OPS and home run count before his season-ending injury, as well as reliever Ryan Morrison who also suffered an injury.

Key players for Wichita State include relievers Amar Tsengeg and Brady Owens, who have shown strong performances recently, and first baseman Nolan Ganter, who hit his first two home runs of the season during Sunday’s win over UAB. Pitcher Brady Pacha has been instrumental in all seven conference wins this year with notable saves and strikeouts.

East Carolina comes into the series following a loss to North Carolina State but boasts strong pitching statistics led by sophomore closer Sean Jenkins. Six regular hitters on their roster maintain batting averages above .300 under head coach Cliff Godwin’s leadership.

Looking ahead, Wichita State continues to adapt after major roster changes from last season by bringing in experienced transfers and revamping its coaching staff under head coach Brian Green. The program holds one of college baseball’s highest winning percentages with multiple championships in its history.
