U.S. Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) has introduced the Passport Sanity Act, a bill that would require U.S. passports and related State Department documents to use only male or female gender designations. The legislation would prevent the Secretary of State from issuing passports, passport cards, or consular reports of birth abroad with an unspecified (X) gender option.
Senator Marshall stated, "Passports play a critical role in safeguarding our national security by confirming the true identity of individuals leaving and returning to the U.S. — which is why they must reflect factual, biological reality." He called on Congress to pass the measure quickly: "Congress should act quickly to enshrine the Passport Sanity Act into law, reinforcing the common-sense approach championed by President Trump and Secretary Rubio."
Senator Blackburn also voiced support for the bill: "Passports protect national security by verifying the identity of individuals exiting and reentering our country. Radical gender ideology ignores biological reality, and the Passport Sanity Act would restore common sense to the passport system by ensuring U.S. passports accurately reflect the holder’s sex."
