U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas) has expressed support for the recent United States Supreme Court decision that upholds Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors. The ruling allows the state to continue enforcing its restrictions on these medical treatments for children.
“Today was not just a win for basic biology and common sense, but for human decency, sound medicine, and the dignity and safety of children everywhere,” said Senator Marshall. “As a doctor for over 25 years, I understand the gravity of these harmful so-called treatments radical activists have been pushing on children. They leave permanent scarring, sterilization, and other horrible side effects. Make no mistake, there’s more work to do, and I remain committed to eliminating taxpayer-funded transgender procedures on both minors and adults.”
Senator Marshall is also promoting legislation called the No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act. This proposal forms part of a larger legislative effort known as the President’s One Big, Beautiful Bill. If enacted, it would prevent Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) from covering gender-transition procedures—including surgeries and hormone therapy—for individuals of all ages. Supporters say this measure could reduce federal spending by $2.5 billion over ten years by limiting coverage of such procedures.
Marshall argues that barring coverage would also help avoid irreversible surgical interventions that can result in health complications, sterilization, and increased long-term medical costs.
