U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS), convened a roundtable in Garden City with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials. The meeting focused on issues affecting the region such as organized crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
During the event, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced plans to increase its agent presence at the Garden City Post of Duty.
“Our Kansas law enforcement officers need the best tools and training in order to do their jobs and keep our communities safe,” said Sen. Moran. “As the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee which funds the Department of Justice, FBI, DEA and ATF, my goal here today is to hear directly from officers and sheriffs how Congress can better support local law enforcement and to connect federal law enforcement with Kansas departments to work in a collaborative way to best serve the southwest part of the state.”
Federal agencies represented included the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), DEA, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). State and local participants came from organizations such as the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol, Garden City Police Department, Finney County Sheriff’s Office, Holcomb Police Department, Seward County Sheriff’s Office, Ford County Sheriff’s Office, Haskell County Sheriff’s Office, Rush County Sheriff’s Office, Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Finney County Attorney’s Office, Dodge City Police Department and Liberal Police Department.
