The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved the Fiscal Year 2026 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Act. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies, announced the committee’s decision.

According to details released by Sen. Moran's office, the bill allocates $36.9 billion for efforts to address violent crime and drug trafficking networks, enhance local law enforcement capabilities, and counter foreign threats. The legislation also provides additional funding aimed at improving safety measures for federal judiciary officials, including Supreme Court justices.

The act includes $6.6 billion for defense functions such as the FBI’s national security and counterintelligence operations. Police and sheriff departments are set to receive $569 million in grants to support their work. Additionally, $2.6 billion is designated to target cartels involved in distributing fentanyl within the United States.

Economic investments total $10.9 billion under this bill. These funds will go toward trade promotion and enforcement activities, weather forecasting improvements, oceanic and atmospheric monitoring programs, scientific research initiatives, broadband expansion projects, and intellectual property protection measures. Full funding is provided for the National Weather Service’s critical life-saving functions as well as round-the-clock staffing at Weather Forecast Offices nationwide.

NASA is allocated $24.9 billion for its space exploration agenda and flagship programs such as Artemis campaign missions involving human spaceflight along with launch services like SLS and Orion systems. An additional $9 billion supports ongoing essential research while prioritizing development in emerging technologies including advanced manufacturing processes, artificial intelligence applications, and quantum science.
