Catholic Vote President Brian Burch said pro-abortion politicians are fighting against increased disclosure laws because the transparency on why women are receiving abortions will decrease public approval of abortion.
"Radical leftists fear increased disclosure about why women take the life of their unborn child,” Burch told Sunflower State News. “The public does not support what are typically flippant and unacceptable reasons for getting an abortion, and the left knows that information would further undercut support for abortion without limits."
Kansas physicians are legally challenging a new state law that would require them to ask and publicly report patients’ reasons for seeking abortion care as well as other personal information.
WJBD radio has reported that a group of doctors has filed a suit against a law they say “'directly interferes with Kansans’ bodily autonomy and their fundamental right to make their own decisions about health care." WJBD reports that Kansas voted to protect abortion rights with an overwhelming majority, and that in the state abortion care is available up to 22 weeks.
According to WJBD, the proposed law would require physicians to collected information on the patients receiving abortion care and report them twice a year to the state in a publicly available report. The bill became a law after the state house and senate bypassed a veto from the Democrat Governor Laura Kelly. The information collected will not include names or revealing information on the identity of the patients.
Kelly said “I refuse to sign legislation that goes against the will of the majority of Kansans who spoke loudly on August 2, 2022: Kansans don’t want politicians involved in their private medical decisions."
