A resurfacing project on K-31 is set to commence in Bourbon and Linn counties later this month, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The work is expected to start the week of July 21, weather permitting. The project will apply a hot-mix asphalt overlay across two sections: from the Bourbon/Linn county line to the K-65/K-31 junction, and then back from the K-52/K-31 junction to the Bourbon/Linn county line. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow by refreshing the highway surface.

Motorists will navigate through the construction zone with assistance from a flagging operation and a pilot car, potentially facing delays of up to 15 minutes. The completion of this $1.8 million project is anticipated by the end of September 2025. Killough Construction, located in Ottawa, has been contracted as the primary contractor for this undertaking.

KDOT advises drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to posted signs in all work zones. For real-time road conditions, individuals can visit kandrive.gov or call 5-1-1. Updates on construction projects in Southeast Kansas are available at ksdot.gov/projects/southeast-kansas-projects.
