State members of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Kansas are expressing strong support for property tax cuts as a priority for the 2025 legislative session. According to the annual survey conducted by NFIB, more than 88% of its members favor a reduction in the statewide property tax mill levy.

NFIB State Director Dan Murray highlighted the relevance of this issue, stating, “Reducing Kansans’ tax burden is top of mind for small business owners, particularly when it comes to our state’s property taxes.” Murray emphasized the importance of making Kansas’ tax code competitive with neighboring states to foster economic growth. He noted, “As Main Street continues to grapple with inflation, it’s incumbent on lawmakers…to invest in their employees, create new jobs, and keep our communities thriving.” The organization is committed to collaborating with lawmakers to ensure Kansas remains favorable for small businesses.

The survey revealed that 86% of respondents believe Kansas should mandate the disclosure of third parties with financial interests in litigation. Conversely, 5% oppose this measure, and 21% are undecided. Additionally, 62% support waiving fines and penalties for first-time regulatory errors, 17% are against this, and 20% remain undecided.

The Kansas Legislature commenced its session on January 13, 2025.

For business owners wanting to stay informed about legislative developments, NFIB recommends downloading the NFIB Engage App. The app provides action alerts, opportunities to communicate with lawmakers, and invitations to NFIB events and webinars. More details are available on the NFIB website.
