GCCC to Offer Non-Credit Dog Training Course by Buchman Best Behaviors

Garden City Community College will soon offer a non-credit “Pet Friendly Pet Training” course by Whitney Buchman of Buchman Best Behaviors. The 10-week course will teach participants how to train their pets using Whitney’s fear-free and pain-free methodologies. Basic obedience, pet advocation, and how to think like a trainer will be taught for only $300, significantly lower than Whitney’s usual rates.

Whitney Buchman is an experienced trainer. He has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in Animal Ecology with a specialization in Animal Care and a minor in Biology. Whitney worked in the zoological field for 15 years culminating as Curator of Education before going on his own to help pet owners in SW KS. He has apprenticed under multiple world-renowned trainers and is currently a Karen Pryor Academy student.

The course will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 PM starting March 21 through May 23. The class will be capped at six pets (up to two people per pet, minimum age of 10 with a parent) to allow for a safe and enriching environment. All dogs must be current and up-to-date on vaccinations.

The registration deadline is Friday, March 10, at 4 PM, and payment is due at the time of registration. To register or for any questions, please contact Chris Turpin, Community Enrichment Coordinator/English Professor, at 620-276-9547 or christopher.turpin@gcccks.edu.
