A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Kansas Secretary of State – Elections Department regarding candidates for the upcoming spring elections on February 6, 2025.

The request was made by us at Sunflower State News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. We are seeking detailed information about all candidates running in the forthcoming election under the Kansas Open Records Act § 45-215 et seq.

Specifically, we have requested an electronic list of all candidates including their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. Additionally, we have asked for all contact information for each candidate, which includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news on this upcoming election.
