A federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kansas, returned several indictments on Apr. 8 charging multiple individuals from Mexico with immigration and firearm-related offenses.
The main indictment charges Luis Estrada-Andrade, 22, with one count of possession of a firearm by an illegal alien. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Andrusak is prosecuting the case.
Other indictments include Alfredo Bustamante-Pineda, 46; Francisco Javier Gandarilla-Baray, 35; Alexis Guzman-Olea, 22; Apolonio Melesio-Rios, 48; Edgar Montoya-Jakes, 45; and Santiago Ramos-Zeferino, 37. All are Mexican nationals charged with unlawful reentry after deportation or reentry as previously removed aliens. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating these cases.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Larry Fadler, Scott Rask, and Jabari Wamble are prosecuting the various cases involving unlawful reentry or aggravated felony convictions.
Officials emphasized that an indictment is only an allegation at this stage of the legal process. “An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
