Braves Top Three School Records, 11 PR’s at Washburn Open

The Ottawa University track & field team competed at the Washburn Open this past weekend, the last event before prepping for the 2023 KCAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 10th & 11th.

There were 11 personal records and three new school records this weekend in Topeka. On the women’s side, Mumina Millington got things started with a 8.07s run in the 60m dash. In the middle distance events, JayOnna Perry had a PR in the 400m (58.76s) while Destiny Escobar had PR’s in the 600 yard run (1:30.67) and the 800m (2:27.29). Escobar’s time in the 600 yard run was a new OU school record. Jennae Ramirez also had a PR in the 600 yard run, with a time of 1:38.93. Perry also had a PR in the 60m hurdles (9.15s), continually improving on her school record mark in that event. Juliet Lane had two PR’s in both the high jump and triple jump, while Jordyn Weems had PR in the triple jump as well.

On the men’s side, Kayron Johnson had a PR in the 60m hurdles with at time of 8.45s. A .05 improvement would top the school record in that event. Johnson was joined by Jaylan Washington, Cameron Jackson, and Santino Gee to form the OU Relay team. The four passed OU’s indoor school record in that event with a time of 3:26.28. Bryan Cooper claimed the last PR of the event with a 1.85m high jump.
