Census Bureau: 6.1% of people in Kansas identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 2,932,099 citizens living in Kansas in 2021, 93.9% said they were only one race, while 6.1% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Kansas who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 81.4% or 2,386,766 individuals. Following them, African Americans accounted for 5.6% and totaled 165,291 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Kansas is lower than the national average, which stands at 7%.
